HISTORIC HOUSES of SUSSEX

Four miles South-East of Petersfield off the B2146
Lost on top of the Downs, and mellowed to a silvery pink by the sea breezes,
this original 17th century brick house was redecorated and filled with beautiful
things owned by the Fetherstonhaugh family in the 18th century.
In Regency days Sir Henry Fetherstonhaugh, after a fling with Emma Hart(Nelson`s
Lady Hamilton), married his dairy-maid. She and her sister lived there for
50 years without touching it.
Primarily a green foliage garden, laid out in the picturesque style, with
flowering shrubs and an under-planting of bulbs, perennials and herbaceous
plants.
