BLACKBOYS INN
Blackboys, Sussex On A265.
Built as a farmhouse in 1389 this large inn must be one of the most popular
in the area judging by the number of cars seen outside and the number of
customers who pack the bars inside.
I asked the journalist owner, Mr. A Johnstone Smith, whether he had witnessed
the ghost that reputedly haunts the pub. 'I'm afraid not', he admitted.
'Perhaps I'm too sceptical, but there is most certainly a "feeling"
of someone around sometimes.
My wife has experienced this unseen presence and a Mrs. Cooke of Uckfield
felt something a couple of years ago.
The belief is that the silent phantom is of Anne, a woman who became pregnant
by a cousin and died in childbirth in 1804.
