CHURCHES of SUSSEX
Brass Rubbings of Sussex
Slaugham - Fleming
Under a delicately carved canopy is John Covert in a brass of 1503, and
on the back of a recessed tomb are brass portraits of Richard Covert and three
of his four wives as they were in 1547. They are looking at a crude image
of Christ after the resurrection, surrounded by soldiers of the Temple Guard.
Another 16th century brass of a daughter of John Covert shows her kneeling
at a desk between coloured shields.
