CHURCHES of SUSSEX

Brass Rubbings of Sussex

New Shoreham - Civilian

It is New Shoreham that has been called the finest church in Sussex. Even Swinburne was stirred by the sight of it to write;

Strong as time and as faith sublime
Clothed round with shadows of hopes and fears
Stands the shrine that has seen decline
Eight hundred waxing and waning years.

There is a brass in the centre aisle with a man and a woman in 15th century costume.
