CHURCHES of SUSSEX
Brass Rubbings of Sussex
Ore - Unknown
This little church was swallowed up by Hastings and little, if anything
is left of the ruin that once stood proud.
One thing that was saved from this ruin and preserved in the new church,
half a mile away, is the oldest but one of all the civilian brasses in Sussex,
being the portraits of an unknown couple who died here in the closing years
of the 14th century.
It was one of the rare portraits with a bracket, and though the bracket
is gone the rest is perfect.
