CHURCHES of SUSSEX

Climping

It was on the last day of the 12th century that the Pope ordered our churches to prepare a chest with a niche through which coins could be dropped for poor knights to go crusading, and at Climping is one of the finest of the chests made at that time.

It is one of the two or three oldest in England and has ten lovely arches and rosette medallions finely carved in oak.
