CASTLES of SUSSEX

 

This is all that remains of the gate-tower. A solitary window stands like an open doorway into the past, high up the wall. Holes where the floor joists would have rested are clearly seen from the ground.

 

 

 

This view is looking south and the church is straight ahead just beyond the trees on the left of the tower remains. Directly behind is the living quarters and to the right of the picture is the original motte, believed to be from 1070.
