CASTLES of SUSSEX

The view below is looking east by north with the
valley of the Adur lying below the castle walls.
This would have been a doorway into the room beyond
and the remains of the door columns can be made out on either side of the
doorway. The walls here are very thick, 4-5ft across and would have
taken the weight of the tower above which has long since gone.

Above is the living accommodation looking to the north. There is not much left here of
the original building with just the base of the walls giving some idea of
the layout of the quarters.
This is the view from the north looking south towards the gate-tower remains.
The slope of the motte can just be seen to the right of the photograph.
